Youth Recreational League (U9, U10 & U11)

The U9 – U11 age group is the third stage of soccer development that our players go through, commonly known as “the golden age of learning”.

The effect of the role-model is very important at this stage. Children begin to identify with famous players and successful teams, and they want to learn imaginative skills. Skill demonstration is very important, and the players learn best by “doing”.

Players move from self-centered to self-critical, and they have a high stimulation level during basic skill training. This is also an important time to teach basic principles of play and to establish a training ethic and discipline, as outlined in our Long-Term Player Development Model (LTPD).

Given the current format of standings and scores at this age group the game will be counted and so a proportioned time must be allotted to that. In saying that, the first two games of the season will not count towards standings as they will be used to familiarise coaches and players with their team and the game. This may change in the 2013 season given the new mandates coming through Long Term Player Development and the Ontario Soccer Association.
